What usually drifts
- Quartz timebases age, so a counter's frequency accuracy degrades steadily between calibrations.
- Oven-controlled timebases are far more stable, but only once fully warmed up.
- Timers and stopwatches are usually limited by how they are started and stopped, not by their crystal.

Can you calibrate a microwave frequency counter?
Yes. Frequency sourcing from 1 µHz to 50 GHz is on our ANAB scope at the Vista, Santa Clara and Orlando labs, which covers counter calibration across that range.
Is stopwatch calibration accredited?
Timers and stopwatches are the time and frequency items we calibrate most often. Send the model and the certificate level you need, and we confirm with the quote whether it is accredited or NIST-traceable.
