Calibrator rental: what to check when it arrives

  • Confirm the calibrator's own certificate covers every function and range you will use, not only the headline function.
  • Check its accuracy against your test uncertainty ratio. To calibrate a 0.1% instrument at 4:1, the calibrator needs 0.025% or better at that point.
  • On thermocouple functions, select the right thermocouple type and check cold-junction compensation, the most common source of temperature error.
  • Charge batteries fully and use good test leads. Leads and connections add error at low voltage and low resistance.

What calibration comes with the rental?

Every rental ships with a current calibration certificate from a Techmaster laboratory. Check that its due date covers your last day of testing and that it covers the ranges you will use.

The certificate level depends on the functions you use. Electrical DC and low-frequency functions are on the ANAB ISO/IEC 17025 scope at all four accredited labs, and pressure from −12 psi to 10,000 psi (15,000 psi at San Antonio). Can I rent a calibrator to calibrate my own instruments?
Yes. That is the most common reason to rent one. Check that the calibrator's own certificate is in date for your whole job and covers the ranges you will use.
Which calibrators can I rent?
Multifunction electrical, pressure and process calibrators. Send the functions, ranges and accuracy you need, with your dates, and we confirm availability and terms.
How accurate does a rented calibrator need to be?
Accurate enough to keep your test uncertainty ratio, usually 4:1 or better, at every point you calibrate. A calibrator good to 0.025% supports 4:1 against instruments with a 0.1% tolerance. Send the instruments and tolerances, and we suggest a suitable model.
Can I rent a thermocouple calibrator?
Ask us. Thermocouple simulator-calibrators are among the calibrator types we calibrate most often. Send the thermocouple types, temperature range and accuracy you need, with your dates, and we confirm availability and terms.
How do I rent from Techmaster?
Send the model or the specification it must meet, your start date, the last day you need it and the certificate level you need. We confirm availability and terms, then ship the instrument with its certificate or deliver it locally in Southern California, Silicon Valley or the Orlando area.
